Snow Day = Sew Day

I called into work today because, well honestly $7.85 an hour isn't worth me or my truck getting damaged in the ice. So it was a Sew Day! I think all of my frustrations yesterday were taken out and put to good use on my new project. Such good use that I am done with all the blocks and cut almost everything else out! All but 4 blocks were done today! I did those 4 last night. This picture does NOT do it justice.
It is a variety of material, including the Civil War reproductions by Moda. I found the idea in an Australian magazine. I'll post more on it when I post the finished project. I love the fabric in this one though. I really need my sister to come and take a real picture of it when I am done. Hopefully it won't be hanging as an Unfinished Project for a year!

A Long Time Coming

If you are anything like I am you have a ton of clippings, magazines, or books with ideas in it. You know the things you see and you just HAVE to make? Problem is, even if I had all the fabric and yarn in the world I wouldn't have enough time to complete them all. This project is one of the first that caught my eye when I started quilting. I finally made it!!! It took a long time to find the flags. My good friend Susan Noe actually found them for me. They were bigger than the project called for so I had to adjust all the measurements but I think it still came out okay. I had coffee stained it, but it smelled so much of coffee I just "washed" it in cold without any detergent and it still took most of the color out! I may try it again though.

New Beginnings!

Happy New Year! Well in a few hours at least. I have decided to create a new blog dedicated to my obsession with quilting, sewing, crocheting, cake decorating, painting, and drawing. Mostly the first three. I have 2 goals for 2010.... to finish my UFOs (UnFinished prOjects) aka WIPS (Works In Progress) and to run a 5K. I started tonight getting organized. My sewing room was atrocious!

There was no way I could get anything done and enjoy it in this mess!

This picture does show my pegboard which I love having!

Organized finally. The little drawers in the blue organizer has my machine needles, feet, spaghetti, and laces. My buttons are in the organizer behind the computer. The wine bottle container is perfect to keep zippers in! The little tote next to the machine is actually designed for scrap booking but I think it is perfect for keeping next to me with all my necessities, and when I am sewing somewhere else, it is all right there for me to take with me.

The closet isn't perfect but I know where things are. That's what's important.... right? I have 2 shoe racks hanging that hold just some of my massive amount of fabric. A lot of the rest of it is in containers in the closet. You see one of my UFOs hanging here. It is my favorite quilt top and I have about decided to hand quilt it. I have never hand quilted before so I think I'll start on something a little smaller. Don't worry, I have plenty of smaller UFOs to practice on.

My bookshelf and layout board. I need to cover a couple more pieces of the board but I LOVE using this. I can design my quilt before I make the first stitch and keep it in order as I piece. BIG time saver. You see another UFO. This quilt top is just going to be quilted with stitch in the ditch. The top shelf of the bookshelf has a curtain rod with most of my ribbon on it. I have tons of books and magazines (like I need any more ideas). I have more magazines than will fit though.

I have some of my smaller UFOs lined up ready to be completed. There are so many new things I want to start but I am determined to FINISH some things first. I think ... no I know... I have ADD. I can't stay on one project long.
